Runner Up

PlaceCal is a partnership of community organisations, charities, social housing providers, government services, health providers, and citizens. We’re working together to improve the quality, quantity and accessibility of community data to make smarter and better connected neighbourhoods that work for everyone. PlaceCal is a low social capital social network designed to facilitate real world interactions. It has three components: an overall digital inclusion strategy aimed at a neighourhood level; a comprehensive training and support program to enable community organisations to maintain high quality public events listings; and a decentralised software platform designed to enable accessible hyperlocal information sources. It’s especially aimed at helping people find out about the small local events that can be hard to discover: the coffee mornings, sewing groups, computer classes and gardening groups that might be just around the corner. PlaceCal is a website, but it’s also a conduit for event information that’s turned into posters, flyers, brochures, and local TV and radio broadcasts.

Can we ask if this prize is likely to be on offer next year? We are not yet ready fo make an application.

    • Hi Elizabeth. The AAL challenge prize takes place every two years. The decision on the third edition will be taken in November this year.
