Meet the 15 Semi-Finalist Teams Empowering Older Entrepreneurs Laura Ferris Laura Ferris Programme Coordinator View profile 01 Apr 2020 Today, the Smart Ageing Prize team is very pleased to announce the 15 semi-finalists who are working on solutions to empower older adults to engage in entrepreneurship. From online mentoring and food and culture classes, to digitally enhanced dance and theatre workshops, the Smart Ageing Prize aims to support older adults to transition effectively in a changing economy. The semi-finalists represent a wide and varied range of solutions to engage older adults in enterprise. At the heart of each idea, the teams ensure that older adults are supported to meaningfully contribute to their own lives and wellbeing, as well as society, creating connections through intergenerational collaboration. A team of expert assessors scored the entries received, which were then sent to the judging panel for deliberation and selection of the 15 most promising solutions to move on to the next stage of the programme. Over the next few months, the 15 teams will work with the AAL Programme and Nesta Challenges to develop their concepts – receiving a range of support such as coaching, development toolkits and resources, support with their business plans, workshop sessions, as well as some financial support for the development of their prototype. In November, the winners will be announced with the first place winner receiving €35,000, the first runner-up receiving €10,000 and the second runner-up receiving €5,000.
